Using the case study of PECO, a US utility, this course will outline how a utility can run this program from beginning to end with successful outcomes, discuss best-practices around from engaging customers to delivering accurate bills and ensuring utility, customer, regulatory and policy goals are met. Global case studies will be presented and discussed. It will also address advanced applications that can be built around Smart Metering infrastructure that facilitate better handling of outages and service restoration, Distribution Automation, Demand Management etc.,

Leading Transformation to Smart Power system of the future– The Supply side Paradigm – Integration of DER’s & Renewables & the Demand Side Paradigm– This course will discuss the challenge of the utility today in integrating variable kinds of traditional and non-traditional generation including Distributed Energy Resources in the supply and demand sides. This course will review Protection, Control, Automation, Standards and Interoperability, Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, Distributed Energy Resources, Renewables, Microgrids etc., its applications on driving new innovative business models that brings benefits for customers. This course will also outline the different renewables and distributed energy resources (DER’s – including EVs, storage etc.,) in the distribution grid and the grid integration of these resources either in a utility owned or a third party owned paradigm. The unique challenges that utilities face in integrating these resources to the grid (protection and control, automation, and others) will also be discussed.
